Enforce good possession concepts of creating angles and receiving on back foot and then use them in game-realistic environment.
Group players into positional lines (Def, MF, F)
Groups of 5
4v0 & 4v1:
When player has ball, adjacent players move to nearest cone (creating angles)
2-touch - must receive with furthest foot
Coaching Points:
Talk about what positions on the field might be in this particular rondo (see diagram for suggestions)
4v4 + 2 targets
Team in possession has 2 players in square (center mids) and 2 outside (wide midfielders). They work to get ball between targets (CB and CF). When defense wins possession, they transition to get into attacking shape while other teams transitions all 4 players inside square to win ball back quickly.
Rules:
+ To start say defenders not allowed to tackle outside of box.
+ Limit outside players to 2 seconds on the ball.
Coaching Points:
+ Outside players and targets need to move along lines to create good angles.
+ Center mids need to look for pockets of space
+ Call out positions and their roles and responsibilities
5 attackers vs 4 defenders + GK:
+Neutral player serves balls in (CB for attackers) and acts as target for defensive team
+Have defense start in good position up the field (put down pinnie for starting position). Enforce offsides.
Coaching Points:
+ CF's role to stretch the field
+ Outside midfielders become forwards and try to get to endline to cross OR get to goal to score off cross
+ CM supporting the play
+ If lose ball, quickly transition to defense to win ball back and score on counter-attack
Play the game using the players in the positions they have been practicing all session
