Session with sports scientist focusing on agility, core strength, balance, speed endurance and fitness.

Warm up is incorporated into this session.

Passing drill to get the players a good feel of the ball.

Drill set up as shown and players pass and follow ...gradually increasing the tempo.

Make sure receiving players demand the ball and show good opposite movement.

Progress by introducing a sharp '1, 2 ' around the mannequins.

Focus on touch, weight of pass, communication, movement, timing of runs, body shape to receive.

Attacking & Counter Attacking

Practice Organisation:

- Area 40x20yds, with 2 zones marked 10yds into each end.

- 2 small goals at one end, to serve as targets & one normal goal, set back 5 yards behind opposite end line, defedned by GK, as illustrated.

- 17 players (incl. GK) divided into 2 teams of 8 (Reds & Blues)

- Players in each team work in pairs.

- Practice starts with: Blues serve ball forward to Reds, who send-out 2 players to receive & attack goal.

- Blues send-out 1 player (A) to make 1v2.

- Reds objective is to get the ball into Blues end zone & shoot at goal.

- If Blue defender wins ball: a 2nd Blue (B) takes a ball & attacks either of the 2 goals opposite end to score.

- 2 Reds become recovering D's attempt to stop this.

- Reverse roles of the team after suitable period of practice.

Progressions:

- If Blue (A) wins the ball in the middle zone a 2nd Blue (B) can support to make a 2v2 and attack in small goals.

- Reds can send out 3 A's, Blues sending out 2 D's making a 3v2.

Learning Objectives:

- 1v1 skills & individual attacking techniques.

- Creating 2v1 passing oppotunities with individual techniques.

- Isolating individual D & making through pass to attack goal.

- Shooting to score on the move, vs GK.

- Individual defending 1v1, 1v2 situations.

- Use of pitch perimeter to trap Attacker & deny pass to supporting player.

- Delaying & denying space to pass behind.

- Recovering & blocking possible shots.

9 v 9 box to box game focusing on attacking as a team

Both teams set up in a 3,3,2 formation

Focus on........

2 full backs pushing on to support attack

Central defender attempt 'back to front' passes ( longer )

Can pivot player get on the ball to start attacks

2 wide midfielders- take on full backs, roll inside, crosses , breaking lines

2 strikers- one drop into whole when defending deep presses low, make channel runs

Expect to lose possession- organisation

3 v 2 attacking session working on creating goal scoring chances when team has an overload

3 reds attack from red line on coaches whistle and 2 defenders come out to defend goal

All players must stay within width of penalty area and reds can only score when inside penalty area

Use 18 yrd line as an offside line
