Warm up: Passing channels 1

Organization

Playes ae broken up into groups of 5 or 6 (depending on numbers)

Playing area of: 20 x 20m

Each playeris given cones, and asked to place them randomly around the area

1 ball per group

Activity

Players possess the ball in the area without the ball touching the cones

Players are encouraged to play the way they are facing, make quick passing combinations, and vary the length of pass: short, long, to feet, into space

Progression

1 touch passing only

Alternate touches allowed - 1st player 1 touch, 2nd player 2 touch, 3rd player 1 touch...

Challenge

players must link as many passes as possible in 90 seconds

each pass played is worth 1 point

pass count returns to zero anytime the ball touches a cone, a player takes more than the designated touches, or the ball goes out of play

Coaching Points

The purpose of this warm up is to get players into the mindset of:

Play the way you face

Limit touches

Create passing channels by making supportive runs

Quality communication

Organzation

- 30 x 50 area set up as shown

- 30 x 30 smaller area set up as shown

- 12 Players (4 Attackers, 4 Defenders & 4Target Players)

- Coach acts as server

- 1 Ball (additional on outside with coach)

Activity

- Attacking team must play into Target Player at one end, targetplaymustthen colet 1 touch pass to team mate to score a point.

- playe whopasses to target player must then take the place of target player, an target player moves into playing area

- If odd numbers a Neutral player can supports the team in possession

- When the ball is played out of bounds, game is rstarted fro Coach

- Coach acts as a server on the outside of area & plays balls in randomly

Coaching Points

- Possession: Quality of pass, possession with a purpose & circulation of the ball

- Support: Aware of space & surroundings. Can you be an option between/behind opposition?

- Transition: Reaction as an individual.
