Juggling Warm-Up

Organization:

30x40 yard grid, each Player with a ball.

Instructions:

Players work in pairs. Set number of touches allowed. Player to misplay the ball, a point is given to the other player. Play for a fixed time, winners move up to play a new player.

Coaching Points:

- Players try to improve their touches (suppleness, control and foot-eye coordination) by juggling with different surfaces of their feet & body.

Dribbling Warm-up

Organization:

30x40 yard area

Every player with a ball

Instructions:

- Messi - Pinky toe touches, close, each step

- Ronaldo - Laces touches, longer, sprinting into space

- Xavi - Quick turns to find space

Coaching Points:

- Select the correct movement/dribble/turn

- Select the correct surface to use

- Head up to find space

- Accelerate into space

Progressions:

- Limit touches

- Go for certain time

- Take away points for hitting/running into other players

Organization:

20x30 yard area

3 different sections - with defender standing in each area

Instructions:

1. Players must try to run through the "Gauntlet" and through all three levels before defender pulls pennie

2. Next player in line can begin their run as soon as the player before them passes the first defender

3. If Attacking Player makes it to the end, that is a point for their team

4. If Defending Player pulls the pennie out from Attacking Player, Attacking Player must return to the line and it is a point for the defending team

5. Play for 1-2 minutes then switch defenders

Coaching Points:

1. Attack defenders with speed/pace

2. If contained by the defender, use appropriate move/feint to get to next level

3. Don't wait for the defender, try to be unpredicatble

Progressions:

Add ball (see next slide)

Organization:

-12 to 16 players

-Each player with ball

-2 pugg goals (or 2 big goals + GK)

-Area 25x25 yards

Instructions:

A-Player dribbles to first cone at full speed then stops ball just before cone.

B-Player sprints to right hand cone and changes direction quickly to get to opposite ball

C-Player shoots at goal

*Repeat drill on the left hand side for a left foot strike at goal

Main Theme III

Organization:

1. 40 x 30 yard area set up as shown

2. 10 players (8 attackers, 2 goalkeepers) set up as shown

3. 8 balls (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

1. Players each start out with a ball at the end line to the right of the goalkeeper

2. Each player then takes their turn running out to the mannequin (or marker) with the ball, turning, take a set up touch before getting a shot on goal

3. Once they shoot they must then sprint as fast as they can through the flags at the end line to the left of the goalkeeper.

Coaching Points:

1. Angle of approach off center

2. Observe the position of the goalkeeper

3. Non-kicking foot is placed to the side and slightly behind the ball

4. Contact foot- Instep (Laces)

5. Follow through and land on striking foot

Progressions:

1. P – Allow the attackers to follow in for rebounds before sprinting through the flags

2. R – Shorten the length of the field so players can get more shots on goal
