Match day or training warm up routine.
Can be used as a match day or training warm up. Start with a low tempo and build it up.
Organisation
Start with two groups of players lined up at points A & B.
Jog gently in line to the opposite end, then run diagonally across each other, with an equal amount of distance between each other.
On each diagonal run, carry out a dynamic movement or side-step facing towards each other.
This possession warm up game is ideal for match day as well as training.
Aim
Each team must try to get the highest number of consecutive passes during their spell as the team in possession.
Organisation
3 teams of 4 players, with 2 floating players.
Team A (yellow & green) are the team aiming to keep possession. They can use any of the players on Team C and any of the floating players.
Team B (red & white) are defenders. Their aim is to break up play and limit the number of passes made by Team A.
Team C (black & white) occupy one side of the penalty area each. They can patrol up and down their side looking to receive the ball and play it back out to the team in possession.
The floating players always play for the team in possession.
After 3 minutes, rotate the teams so that:
- Team A (possession) take up each side of the penalty box and Team C.
- Team B swap with Team A and look to keep possession.
- Team C (perimeter support) swap with Team B to be the defenders.
After another 3 minutes, rotate the teams so that each group has a turn at each role.
