Instructions:

The ball is served from the hands

Before the servers throw the ball they call out a number; 1, 2 or 3

The controlling player has that number of touches to control the ball and play to the third player, e.g.

One would be a cushion volley to third player, two would be one touch control and pass, three would be two touches to control and pass

The ball is not allowed to touch the floor

Players score a point for each successful attempt

Coaching Points:

Get into line with the ball

Select appropriate surface

Progressions:

Play 2, 3, or 4 so that players must now take at least two touches of the ball

Allow the ball to touch the floor

Reduce the serving distance

Players must complete the number of touches before catching the ball not passing the ball

Organization:

30x40 yard area set up as shown

10 players set up as shown

5 balls (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

Players have to play passes to each other

The player receiving has to control the ball quickly and play back to partner

If a player miss controls the ball, they get a point

If the player playing the pass misplaces it, they get the point

Play to 5 points then change partners

Coaching Points:

Receive with furthest foot from the ball

Slight hop onto standing foot on contact to prepare for next action

Receive with the toe pointed up and ankle locked

Progressions:

Players are allowed to vary the weight and accuracy of the pass

Play softer passes

Organization:

Large circle 20 yards in diameter as shown

12 players (3 Attackers, 9 Servers) set up as shown

Instructions:

Players on the outside of the circle start w ith the ball

Players in the center have to receive from one of the servers

The receiver then plays back to the server

The receiver then moves away to find a new server

Play for a set tim e limit then rotate players

Coaching Points:

Get into line with the ball

Select appropriate surface

Withdraw surface upon impact

Direction of touch to enable next action

Progressions:

Receiving the ball turn, dribble and find an open server

Add passive defender

50x40 yard area set up as shown

2. 12 players (4 Attackers, 6 Defenders, 2 Targets/Goalkeepers) set up as shown

Instructions:

Teams score by getting the ball to the target player. Once the team has scored one way they then have to play to the other target player

If the defending team wins the ball they can play to any target

Targets are free to move along the side line

Play for set time periods

Coaching Points:

Get into line w ith the ball

Assess the situation as ball travels

Select appropriate surface

Withdraw surface upon impact

Direction of touch to enable next action

Progressions:

Limit touches

Teams must complete 5 passes before playing to target

Add neutral players to give a numbers up advantage
