Defending in 1v1, 2v2 and 3v2 situations.
Looking for defenders to make decisions when to press, drop, commit to make a tackle. Also when the defender is working, it is timed so when they are tired, what is the difference in the decisions they make.
In a 2v2 and 3v2 situation, looking for defenders to communicate, when to hand over, when to press and when to sit back.
Set up -
Area - 24yds x 12yds. (Halfway line at 12yds)
Server in middle with balls, one defending on side resting.
1 defender in middle working for 1 minute, then rotate.
Start up-
Server passes ball into red player 1 who looks to take on defender. Once player 1 has taken on defender or dribbled past line, he can pass to player 2 at other end. If defender wins possession back before player has passed, server automatically passes ball in to opposite end man, so defender is constantly working.
Once player has either passed successfully or been tackled, they must jog and join back of opposite line.
Start up-
2 minute reps. Offside is on half way line.
Server passes ball into red player 1 who with player 2 looks to take on 2 defenders. Same principles as the 1v1, where player 1 and player 2 have to take on defenders and dribble past line before he can pass to player 3 or 4 at other end. Defenders look to win ball back.
Once player has either passed successfully or been tackled, they must jog and join back of opposite line.
Start up-
Make pitch wider by 4 yards to 24yds by 16yds.
2 minute reps. Offside is on half way line.
Defenders are now outnumbered, looking to work as a pair against 3 attackers. The 3 attacking players can only pass to opposite end once they have crossed half way line. Offsides apply.
Once players has either passed successfully or been tackled, they must jog and join back of opposite line.
