Dynamic Warm-up

Organization:

10x20 yard area (grid)

Groups of 6 players

Cones / Flags / Markers / Poles (4 different objects matched on each corner)

Instructions:

- First Player in the groups move around the three cones; on coaches command, it's a race to one of the four corners (which ever coach calls out).

- Point to the team of the quicker player.

Coaching Points:

- Head Up

- Quick feet

- Low center of gravity

- Explosive movement to flag or cone that is called

- Quick thinking/decision making

Progressions:

- Opposite of what coach calls (if flag, go to cone and vice versa)

- Vary the movement around the three cones

- Add a pass from the next person in line waiting, and person whose turn it is has to dribble while executing sequence

Warm-up

Organization:

15x20 yard area

7 cones/markers laid out as shown

One additional player at each end where ball(s) start

Two balls going at the same time

Instructions:

- Simple pass to player calling for the ball

- After passing to teammate, follow pass to that marker

- Call for another pass

Coaching Points:

- Communication

- Speed of play

- Shaping of body to see next pass

- Decision making

- Movement after pass

Progressions:

- Add more balls

- Restrict touches

Regressions:

- Allow more touches

- Remove one of the balls

Main Theme

15x20 area

Groups of 3 players as shown

Instructions:

- Players play short-short-long combination play within their area

Coaching Points:

- Eye contact to begin passing sequence

- Movement from second attacker to create angle of support for first attacker

- Passer(s) play pass to correct (back) foot

- First attacker must move to provide a new angle to receive return pass from second attacker

- Third attacker should recognise cue (ball moving to return to first attacker) to move for support of pass from first attacker

- Third attacker must take first touch into space

Progressions:

- 2 touch

- 1 touch

Main Theme II

Organization:

3 10x15 yard channels

Players set up as shown

Balls

Instructions:

- Play starts when attacking player (B) in the middle checks away from the defending player (C), then to the ball to receive the ball played by end player (A).

- Player (D) will check to the opposite side of Player (B) to provide an angle of support.

- Attacking player (B) must choose the appropriate surface of the foot to receive and turn to link play with end player (D) on the endline.

- Player (D) will dribble down to opposite end after receiving the pass from player (B).

- All players rotate up, and repeat sequence.

Coaching Points:

- Check away first to create space.

- Check at an angle and at speed to create separation.

- Locate ball while traveling.

- Angle of approach.

- Check shoulder to see which side defender is showing.

- Choose correct surface of foot to execute turn.

- Head up to locate end player and determine next action.

Progressions:

- Add overlap sequence

- Add give/go sequence

Conditioned Game

Instructions:

- Attacking team must look to penetrate defenders to get to goal.

- Defenders+GK must look to prevent team from scoring, and look to counter to the two counter goals.

- Look to find and attack 1v1 or 2v1 situations.

- Off the ball movement.
