Knockout Game

Organization:

Same set up as previous activity, except no triangles

Yellow players are attackers with ball

Blue players are defenders, no ball

Instructions:

Knockout style game

Yellow players must dribble around the area without having their ball stolen or kicked out by Blue defenders

If yellow lose ball or dribbles out of the grid, they can re-enter the game by performing instructed coerver skill in one of the boxes off to the side

Play for set time

Coaching Points:

Close control when under pressure from defender

-change direction, body between ball and defender

Big touches into open space once defender is beaten

Quickly into side box and quick touches to re-enter game

Progressions:

Limit how many Lives attackers have

-ex: after 2 knockouts, player is OUT

Add more defenders

R-unlimited lives

-less defenders

Nest Game

Organization:

Players divided up in each corner.

All soccer balls in the middle - odd number of balls ideal

Instructions:

Goal is to retrieve a certain number of soccer balls, determined before the game

If all the balls from the middle have been retrieved with no winner, players may go to opponent's nest and steal their soccer balls to win.

Players alternate after retrieving one soccer ball

Coaching Points:

Last 3 toes (Messi) and big touches(Ronaldo) dribbling

Head up

Awareness of opponents - where should you steal soccer balls from?

Communication

Progressions:

-Fewer soccer balls

-Make space bigger

Make space smaller - emphasize close control

The Dribbling Game

Create an inner box 10x10 yards. around the outside of this box place eight cones/ pinnies as shown in the diagram. Try to have them in pairs so that their is two different options.

To begin have your players dribble in the inner box. The coach can activities for the players to do while dribbline (toe taps, foundation, different turns)

Try shouting one color and then another a few seconds later to force a change of direction.

Conditioned Game

Organization:

Players divided into two teams, Blue and Yellow

Blues divided up between two A goals, Yellows divided up between two B goals

All soccer balls with coach on the side

Instructions:

Coach begins game by kicking a ball into the middle

One player from each goal runs out to play, so it becomes 2v2 in the middle

Yellow team tries to score either of the B goals, Blue tries to score in either of the A goals

If goal is scored or ball goes out, players return to their starting spot

Have one player from each color keep score. Most goals wins!

Coaching Points:

Head and eyes up to see open space/goal

Close control when under pressure

Big touch to penetrate open space and attack a goal

End Zone Game

Organization:

30/40x20 yard area with two 5 yard wide end zones is organized as shown in the diagram above.

Instructions:

Play regular scrimmage.

Instead of having goals have two end zones set up. Players score by dribbling into end zones. (Adjust size of area to number of players).

Play is continuous for the designated period of time.

Coaching Points:

Head up and see situation;

Start to recognise when to run with the ball and when to pass.

Close Control;

Encourage moves.

Progressions:

Add a neutral player to create numbers up and more success.
