Organization:

10x20 yard area (grid)

Groups of 6 players

Cones / Flags

Instructions:

First Player in the groups move around the three cones; on coaches command, it's a race to one of the flag or cone (which ever coach calls out).

Point to the team of the quicker player.

Coaching Points:

- Head Up

- Quick feet

- Low center of gravity

- Explosive movement to flag or cone that is called

- Quick thinking/decision making

Progressions:

- Opposite of what coach calls (if flag, go to cone and vice versa)

- Vary the movement around the three cones

Dribbling Technique

Organization:

10x15 yard area

2 teams of 6

One team starts with the ball

Instructions:

- First player in group dribbles out and determines when to execute move Run-around or High-Wave ("Fake Cruyff turn") to lose defender. Attacker can finish at either end.

- Opponent tries to shadow the dribbler and beat them to either end.

- Switch attacker after each turn.

Coaching Points:

- Attack space at speed

- Recognition of defender's position

- Read movement of the defender (In front, next to or behind)

- On toes to pivot

- Open hips/close hips to fake defender

- Head up to see where space is available

- Seal defender off after executing move

- Accelerate into space

Progressions:

2v2 Conditioned Game

Organization:

20x30, 6 Players on each side (Attackers & Defenders)

Instructions:

- Defenders play ball across field to Attackers

- 2 Defenders come out to play against the 2 Attackers

- Players must try to score in the goals that are positioned back-to-back

- If Defenders steal the ball, they too can score

- First pair to score 6 goals

Coaching Points:

- Space ahead so Attacker is at speed

- Recognition of Defender's posistion

- Behind you - accelerate

- Alongside you (Space ahead) - Pretend to turn keep going forward

- Alongside you (Space behind) - Turn

- Defender ahead of you - Turn

- Once you get a yard of space then look to cut across Defender

- Can second Attacker help create space by pulling second Defender away; create a 2v1 out of their movement
