Ball Mastery

Organization:

- 1 Player, 1 Ball & cone (as seen above)

Instructions:

- Players are looking to perform static ball mastery;

- Toe taps

- Side roles

- Forward L

- Backward L

Coaching Points:

1. On toes.

2. Hopping on non - kicking foot.

3. Small touches.

4. Use arms to balance.

5. Use of hips.

Progressions:

P - Players dribble with ball & perform various turns at each cone

SAQ

Organization:

- 10 x 10 Area set up as shown (2 Groups).

- 2 Groups of 4/5 players

Instructions:

- Players have to run around markers as fast as they can in a specific order

- Various shapes & runs to improve cutting & changing of direction

- One player from each group works at a time

Coaching Points:

1. Accelerate to cone.

2. Slow down before cone.

3. Plant front foot.

4. Bend knees.

5. Push off front foot.

6. Accelerate away.

Progressions:

P - Make it into a race between each groups

P - Give players different starting positions (e.g. facing backwards).

Technical Unopposed

Organization:

- 10 x 15 Area set up as shown

- Two groups running at the same time

- Players in groups of three

Instructions:

- Both groups work the same activity/movement

- (A) Players dribble (Messi touches) ball to center cones, execute a turn then dribble back

- Next player in line takes ball off toe & repeats

- Two players work at same time

- (B) Players dribble (Messi touches) ball towards eachother & before colliding execute turn

- After turning player now perform wall pass with team mate

- Once completing wall pass player turns & dribbles (Ronaldo touches) at speed to opposite end line

Coaching Points:

- Head up whilst dribbling.

- Messi Touches.

- Use of body to fake turn.

- Quality of turn (ball out of feet and head up)

- Ronaldo Touches.

- Immediately pick head up.

Progressions:

P - Move from sequence A to B once players have executed turns & dribble technique with accuracy, speed & purpose

1 v 1 Opposed

Organization:

- 30 x 30 Area setup as shown

- Two groups of 6 players (3 Attackers & 3 Defenders)

- Two mini goals

- 1 Ball (additional on outside)

Instructions:

- Player A passes to Player B

- As Player B recieves the ball Player B can press/close down

- Player B tries to score in either goal.

- If Player A wins the ball back they then try and score in either goal.

- Play until goal is scored or ball leaves playing area

- After set time rotate the teams/players

Coaching Points:

- Head up as ball travels

- Observe position/pressing of defender

- Messi Touches.

- Use of body to fake turn.

- Quality of turn (ball out of feet and head up)

- Ronaldo Touches.

- Immediately pick head up.

Progressions:

P - Defender can press as soon as they pass the ball

P - See next screen

1 v 1 Opposed

Organization:

- 30 x 30 Area set up as shown

- Two groups of 6 players (3 Attackers & 3 Defenders)

- Two mini goals

- 1 Ball (additional on outside)

Instructions:

- Player A passes ball out for Player B to run on to

- Player B now has ball in possession with back to goals & Players A defending from behind

- Player B aims to score in either mini goal

- Player A will try to win the ball back and score in either of the goals aswell

- Play until goal is scored or ball leaves playing area

- After set time rotate the players/teams

Coaching Points:

- Attack space ahead (bigger 1st touch).

- Head up to see defenders position.

- Recognition of space and pressure.

- Cutting across player after turn.

- Protect ball if continue to dribble (put body between the defender and ball).

- Head up after turn to make next action (end product).

Progressions:

P - Attackers (Player B) has time limit to score

Conditioned Game

Organization:

- 30x 40 Area set up as shown

- Two fields playing 3v3 mini game

- Mini goals & target gates set up as shown

- 1 Ball per field (additional on outside)

Instructions:

- Field (A) Team playing 3v3 mini game into mini goals. No goalkeepers

- Field (B) Team playing 3v3 mini game into target gates. Must dribble through gates to score

- After set time rotate players, teams and fields

Coaching Points:

- Reveiw of sessions learning outcomes being translated into the game

- Encourage players to play in triangles

P - Directional Play

P - After 4 passes can score in any goal (Field A & B)
