Objective: Warm-up and Ball Mastery Exercises

Space: 20x20

Activity: Coach selects 2-3 taggers dependent on number of players and age group. Dribblers try to avoid being tagged by using fakes, feints, changing directions, and change of pace. If dribbler is tagged, they are stuck in the mud. They must take their ball and put it up above their head with legs open. Other dribblers can free them by playing ball between their legs. Rotate tagers every minute or so.

Coaching Points: Use all surfaces, change direction and burst away, encourage players to be creative and use their moves.

Area dependant on number of players

As many balls and cones as possible to be used

Story /Description:

1. Pirates (players) are all battling the meanest pirate in the 7 seas “Captain Barbossa”

2. They must try to get from their pirate ship, accross the sea, to treasure island without getting hit by a cannon ball (soccer ball)

3. The cannon balls are being fired by the coach

4. Coach yells “PIRATES, ARE YOU READY?” to which the players respond “ARRGGHHHH”, then all the pirates try to run to the other end of the ship without getting hit by a cannon (soccer) ball.

5. If they make it to treasure island without getting hit they are safe for the moment and collect 1 piece of treasure (cone/pinnie) to try and take back to their pirate ship on the next run.

6. Any pirate that gets hit with a cannon ball drops any treasure they had where they got hit which becomes sunken treasure, then comes to the side to be a bad pirate with coach and helps fire cannon balls.

7. Bring out the double cannons if pirates keep taking treasure without getting hit (strike ball from both sides).

8. The last pirate left wins all the treasure on the ship!

Coaching Points:

1. Keep your eye on the cannon balls and use different movements to not get hit

2. Move quickly across the sea

3. Keep your eye on the cannon ball when you hit it

4. Try to time the firing of the cannon ball so that the pirates run into it

Developments:
