Organization:
25x25 yard area
Instructions:
1. Players dribble in their own half.
2. On 'switch' all players must stop their ball and start with another ball dribbling (A).
3. On "1", players do toe-touches.
4. On "2", players do foundations.
5. On "3", players pick up the ball, toss it in the air and try to control the ball out of the air.
Coaching Points:
1. Positive 1st touch
2. Play with laces (Ronaldo touches) to get into space; play with pinky-toe (Messi touches) to keep close
3. Fewest number of touches
4. Run in a straight line
Progression
1. For "1", "2" and "3"; call out a simple math problem so they must think and be aware of what number they'll have to perform.
Organization:
Same organization as before.
Instructions:
Blue team - dribble using "Messi touches" the length of the field, looking to avoid everyone as they go from side to side. Count as many times as they can go from side to side.
White team - dribble using "Ronaldo touches" the width of the field, looking to avoid everyone as they go from end to end. Count as many times as they can go end to end.
Coaching Points:
- Head up
- Look for space
- Accelerate into the space
- Avoid other players
- Be creative and clever with movement
- Decision making: Patient - wait for space to open up; Aggressive - attack space immediately
Progressions:
Organization: 10x15, 3 Groups running at the same time
Instructions:
- Players work in 4's, 1 player on each endline with two players in the middle (attacker and passive defender)
- Attacking Player C in the middle checks to one either side, Player A on the endline passes to the attacker who receives the ball and tries to play to the other Player D on the far side.
- Attacker should check their shoulder to find the defender and look to receive on the back foot.
- Attacker should try to play with two touches.
- Defender only applies passive pressure on the attacker.
- Player D receives the ball and dribbles length of the area to become Player A.
- Rotation: D moves to A, A moves to B, B becomes C and C moves to D.
Coaching Points:
- Receiving Player
- On toes (be prepared)
- Move in line with ball
- Communication
- Head up as ball travels
- 1st touch to beat defender (make sure head comes up)
- Check shoulder to locate defender
Passing player -
- Eye Contact before pass
- Quality of pass (weight and accuracy)
Progression:
See next slide
Organization:
Same set up as before.
Instructions:
- Same passing pattern as before.
- After Player C passes to Player D, Player C will apply passive pressure to Player D.
- Player B will check to the opposite side that Player C is applying pressure from and will become the teammate of Player D.
- As Player C closes down Player D, Player D will play a "give-go" pass with Player B, then continue the dribble to endline to become player A.
- Player rotation is the same as before.
Coaching Points:
- Player B must transition from defender to attacker to provide angle of support for Player D.
- Player D must immediately get head up to locate Player C closing space down, and also must find Player B who is providing support for "give-go" pass.
Progressions:
See next slide
Organization:
Same set up as before.
Instructions:
- Same passing pattern as before; including the added "give-go".
- Now as Player D crosses the halfway line with their dribble, Player A will step up to become a passive defender as Player D tries to dribble to the endline.
- Same player rotation as before.
Coaching Points:
- Player B's return pass must be played with proper weight into the path of Player D.
- Player D must attack space at speed and move around Player A to get to the endline.
- Player A must provide passive pressure.
Progressions:
- Make successful crossing of endline by Player D to be worth 1 point.
