Skill Circle - Warm up

Organization:

Set up a circle – (Maximize the space you have available)

All players have a ball each and are inside the area dribbling their balls practicing simple turns.

Instructions:

Coach revises and demonstrates selected turns:

INSIDE/OUTSIDE TURN;

DRAG BACK;

Coaching Points:

Use both feet.

Slow in.

Execute turn - Technique

Bend knees, good touch out of feet, head up and accelerate.

Progressions:

Introduce STOP TURN if appropriate

When and how to turn

Organization:

Set up 15x15 square

Have a Large cone in the centre

Players set up as shown with ball each.

Instructions:

On coaches 'go' first players from opposite diagonal lines dribble to centre cone, execute turn and dribble back to their line.

Two players go from other opposite diagonals then go - repeat.

Focus on easy turns to start.

Coaching Points:

Techniques of turns, (See above)

Use both feet and different surfaces.

Keep the ball close and under control.

Be aware of space – Head up

Progressions:

Add a harder turn

Organization:

30 x 35 yard area w ith four 5 x 5 yard

areas in each corner set up as shown

10 players (5 Attackers, 5 Defenders) set up as shown

1 ball (Additional around the outside)

Instructions:

Teams score by dribbling into any of the four corner areas

Once they score in one area they switch directions and try to score in one of the other three

If a player wins the ball they can score in any of the four areas

If a team wins possession of the ball they can score in any area

If the ball leaves the area the game is re-started with a kick-in from Coach

Play for a set time limit

Coaching Points:

Controlled approach

Appropriate turn to protect or change direction

Bend the knees to create a platform to accelerate

Turn into space

Take away with the nearest foot and surface

Head up after turning for next action

Progressions:

Reduce the number of scoring area for each team (two per team )

Reduce number of players to 3 vs.3 or 4 vs.4

Increase playing area or increase the size of scoring zones
