Passing and Receiving Unopposed
Coaching Points:
- When passing players need to use the inside of their foot to pass the ball to their team mate
- Players need to strike the middle of the ball
- Players need to watch the ball hit their foot
- When receiving the ball we want them to be on their toes
- Players use their inside of the foot to control the ball, once again watch the ball onto their foot.
Players are split into partners and set up like above. One ball between two.
1) For the first exercise the blue player stays by their cone and when the red player runs to the cone they use the INSIDE of their foot to pass the ball to their partner, they will take one touch to control it and then pass it back to the blue player. The red player will then run backwards facing the ball to the cone they started and repeat. After 2 minutes the blue player will take the red players position and visa versa and then play for 2 minutes.
2) Same set up as the first. This time the blue player will start with the ball and dribble to the tall cone and then pass it to their partner, once they have done that they will run backwards to their cone. Whilst the blue player is running back, the red player will control the ball and dribble to the tall cone and then pass to the player and run back. This will continue for 4 minutes. Making sure as a coach you are renforcing the coaching points throughout.
3) The final part of this exercise is to remove the cones they were working at and get them to pass with their partner on the move using the whole area. Make sure that players are not just staying in one area - no player should be standing still.
Play for 15 Minutes
Feed the bears
Centre area where the coach (baby bear) stands, cones on the edges of the grid as the honey trees, each player has a ball.
Players have to drill to a 'tree' climb it (5 side to sides) and then collect the honey and feed the baby bear (pass to the coach who will pass it back to collect more honey).
Bring in the parents/assistant coach as baby bears too.
Get the players passing with the inside of the foot and communicating with the baby bears.
Play for 15 minutes
Passing Numbers Game
Set up like above, 2 teams, each player is given one number.
As passing is the session outcome, call out more than 1 number so players are working on passing to each other. If you are calling more than one number and they are not looking to pass, bring in the rule that they have to make one pass to their team mate before they can shoot.
Play for 10 Minutes
Keep the same teams and then finish with a scrimmage.
