Agility warm-up

Session Objective: Agility warm-up

Organisation:

Players themselves asked to set up 10 by 10 area using cones with one in middle (shown example on white board ).5 players one on each cone.

Players 1 to 4 try to exchange places with each other and 5 has to try and move to empty cone.Players can edge away from cone to tease middle player to make move.If 5 gets to cone player not on cone moves to centre and so on

Key Factors:

Speed and agility to move to vacant cone.

Body position :by opening self out player in middle can be aware of three cones in vision and therefore has more chance.

Session Objective:To improve turning with the ball/quality of turns

Organisation:

Each player has a ball and a cone and places the cone within area about 10 metres from another cone.Players then move towards and away from cones performing turns free choice and then as commanded.

Session Objective: Improve turning/changing direction

Organisation:

Two squares Area 15 x 15 max.

Four blues on outside pass ball around square.Initially each player conditioned to three touches which must include turn/change of direction. Then try to pass through yellows to each other.

.Yellow players in middle try to close down and cut out pass.

Development : yellow players have ball each and must try to intercept pass.As pass changes direction on outside,players in middle turn with ball to intercept.

Can develop further by reducing touches on outside.

Awareness and movement to intercept.

Quick change of direction.

Session Objective:Warm up to improve passing and forward runs

Organisation:

Two mannikins.Players arranged as shown.To begin each drill with ball at one end to get shape and then ball at each end starting at same time.

(1) Ball played to player A from 1 who receives and returns.A opens up and receives ball back from 1 to take on back foot and play to end D.A joins D and D plays E to repeat down other side and so on.

(2)Ball played from 2 to player B who plays return to 2.B then spins past mannikin.2 plays diagonal pass to straight run of B.

(3)Ball played from 3 to C who plays return to 3.C spins round mannikin but makes diagonal run to receive straight pass from C.

Repeat drills both sides so players use left and right feet to receive.

Key Factors:

Movement at mannikin to create space.

Body shape to receive.

Movement in advance of pass.Quality of touch.

Switching play by turning

Session Objective: To switch play by turning

Organisation:

Ball played from goalkeeper to defensive half (A) and must be played to wide player in channel (1 or 2)..Wide players play for team in possession.Wide player must then play into area (B).Ball must be played from there to wide player (3 or 4)who crosses for scoring opportunity.

Developments:

(1)Ball must be played to both players in wide positions (1 and 2).This must offer opportunities for switching play.Ball then goes from wide player to area B and again must be moved to 3 or 4 who cross for scoring opportunity.

(2) As before but ball must be switched from 1 to 2 or 2 to 1 then into area B and then switched between 3 to 4 or 4 to 3 and then crossed for scoring opportunity.
