Recieving Wheel
Team is split into 4 different color scrimmage vests
Player A passes ball to B and follows his pass
Coach calls out a color and B must find and pass to that color.
Time of recognition, speed and weight of pass, communication from other players.
Organization:
1. 20x20 grid, seperated into two halves
2. 6 players (two groups of 3)
3. One ball with additional on outside
Instructions:
1. 3v1 in the first grid
2. Defender tries to gain possession and pass to a teammate in the other grid.
3. If successful, the defender joins their team in the new grid.
4. The person who caused the turnover joins the new grid as the defender.
5. Play 3v1 and repeat this pattern.
Coaching Points:
1. Early support - start supporting before the ball is received.
2. Angle of support
3. Movement off the ball
4. Support both sides of the attacker with the ball.
5. Positive touch in space
6. Use deception
Progressions:
1. Limit the number of touches
Organization:
1. Field marked as shown above with 6x(10x10yrd boxes) in disk cones.
2. 2 players are placed in boxes B and E where they will be receiving and delivering passes.
3. 3 players form a back 3 behind them.
4. Balls should be placed at the cones occupied by players A1 and A7.
5. Players start in the shape shown above.
Instructions:
1. Players pass and move in a figure of ‘8 sequence performing continuous switches of play through a central point (Once through a centre back (A2) and once through the centre midfielder (A4)).
2. Players follow their pass to a new position.
3. Introduce a second ball starting at the position currently occupied by A7 in the diagram above once the drill is running at a good tempo.
Coaching Points:
1. Good technical passing with instep and driven passes for longer balls.
2. Timing of the runs by receiving players.
3. Weight of the pass
4. 2-way communication between passing and receiving players.
Progressions:
1. Require the midfielder to start outside the central box and check into box B or E.
2. Require the midfielder to start in the central box, move out and then come back in to receive having created space to receive.
3. Require the midfielder to receive in another pass in another designated box (i.e. A-F).
4. 2 Touch/1 Touch.
5. Full field switches. Cut out players by passing long aerial clipped passes. A1 passes to A3 and A3 to A5. Players rotate as normal but wont all receive a pass on each circuit.
6. Split into 2 teams. The players then rotate back to their own lines after following their passes all the way around (i.e. Once the midfielder plays it to the other team they join the back of their teams line. This can now be made competitive (i.e. most switch circuits in 2 minutes).
