Objective

To develop ball control, feints and dribbling.

Description

This set up is called "The Star".

Four players start at the same time from all four sides of the star, they bribble in and out all the cones. As they approach the mannequin the players execute a move/feint then take the ball to the right and change their side.

Every 2 minutes the coach will change:

- The dribble sequence- i.e. dribbling in and out every 2 cones etc.

- Technique - inside feet only, outside feet only etc.

- Type of move feint

- Change the direction from anti-clockwise to clockwise

Coaching Points

1- Keep the ball close to the feet

2- Make many touches with the ball

3- Soft feel with the ball

4- Move/feint - exaggerate the move to faking to go one and go the other side

2v1 Defending

Set Up

The centre player starts with the ball. All three player start on a red cone.

The centre player passes to his left or right.

The player that didnt receive the pass becomes the defender, creating a 2v1 attack.

The attack finishes when the ball is out of play or a goal is scored.

If the defender wins possession he will attempt to score in either mini goal.

The players will rotate clockwise after every attack.

Key Points

Attackers:

1. Use of speed

2. Direction of first touch

3. Safe side and protection of the ball

4. Supporting angles and distance

5. When to pass/when to dribble

6. Use of skill

Defender:

1. Reaction to recovery

2. Speed of recovery

3. Get goalside

4. Slow down the attack

5. Deny the opportunity to score/shoot

Set Up

Red team are attackers, blue team are defenders.

The centre red player starts with the ball. All three red player start on a red cone.

The centre player passes to his left or right, then all three reds attack the goal.

The defenders can press the ball once the first pass is made.

The third blue defender is recovering from behind the red team. He also can recover once the first pass is made.

The attack finishes when the ball is out of play or a goal is scored at either end.

Key Points

Attackers:

1. Do you overlap slowly or quickly?

2. Is there movement off the ball?

Defender:

1. Reaction to recovery

2. Speed of recovery

3. Get goalside

4. Slow down the attack

5. Deny the opportunity to score/shoot

Communication:

- Between the two attackers

- Between the keeper and defenders

- Between the two defenders

Challenges

Individual

- If you are on the wrong side of the ball, TRY to get goal side quickly

Team

- Try to reduce the space between team mates to be difficult to play through

Unit

- Identify when your team is out of balance and try to delay the opposition
