transition image

Organization:

Half of a field set up as shown/or whatever field space is available

NB. Field Space/Player Positioning should represent the formation of the team.

Instructions:

- Player play a two touch game

- Ball is passed in direction illustrated in diagram. Players then take the place of the player you pass to.

- All players should be on the balls of their feet ready to quickly receive and make the next pass.

- Pass to GK should be a low strike to feet, then go across to far side.

Coaching Points:

- Pace of pass, should be hard enough not to be cut out (inside of foot, toe up, keep it on the floor)

- Speed of play, meet the pass (check off cone), (open up when receiving)

- Players must sprint to next target after completing a pass.

- Communicate (call for passes, look for eye contact), especially the center mid/fwd who must be on his toes/head on a swivel reacting and playing the ball through to the opposite side he receives it

- low hard strike to keepers feet, challenge him

Progressions:

- Start with one ball, then add a 2nd.

Organization:

 Half Field

Instructions:

- three players at atime attack goal, playing diagonal passes to move up the field before a low cross and finish

- two players in the box for cross (Opposite mid/and fwd/cm)

Coaching Points:

- Pace of pass, should be hard enough not to be cut out (inside of foot, toe up, keep it on the floor)

- Speed of play, meet the pass (check off cone), limit touches to two (I don't want one touch, passes are longer and I want consistent accuracy)

- Communicate (call for passes, look for eye contact), especially the center mid/fwd who must be on his toes/head on a swivel reacting and playing the ball through to the opposite side he receives it

- low hard strike to keepers feet, challenge him

- Timing of runs, near post, back post

- Encourage crosser to dribble in if runs are late, or no attacking option present (still looks to make a short pass)

Progressions:

- Add a defender that tracks CM and defends in the box

- Add a 2nd defender that tracks Opposite mid/that crashes into box

- Add a 3rd defender that Fwd/CM combines (Give & Go) around with crosser, which then defenders cross
