Warm Up: Part I

Organization

20x30 Area

Players split into two colors - Blue players with ball each

5x5 Triangles

Activity

- BLUE players work with a ball each & must pass into RED players inside triangles

- The RED player must receive & pass the ball out of a different side of the triangle back to BLUE

- Activity is repeated. After a set time rotate the players.

Progression

1. After passing into triangles players now swtich positions. BLUE would take RED position in triangle

2. Player passing into triangle must close down & apply pressure

3. Players can now combine & communicate: "Wall Pass", "Swtich", "Overlap" etc

Warm Up: Part II

Organization

30x30 Area marked out as a circle

Players in groups of 4. Each group in a different color. 2 Balls per group

Activity

- Four players in each team,one working inside circle & three on the outside

- Two players on the outside have a ball, one doesnt

- Players working in the centre receive & then must player to the player on outside who doesnt have a ball

- After passing middle player must go & receive the other ball - activity repeats

- Swap middle players every 60-90 seconds

Progression

1. Players on the outside can now move/dribble around the outside of circle

2. Introduce 1 player from each group on outside to the middle - they act as support (combinations) and/or passive defender to oppsite color/group member in the middle

Organization

12x20 Area

Players working in groups of 4 - split group into two colors

1 central marker / tall cones

Activity - Part A

- Two RED servers at end lines start with the ball. Two BLUE players back-to-back in middle ready to receive

- BLUE players trigger the pass by spinning & checking away from cone into space to receive & turn (1)

- After BLUE player turns (2) they dribble the ball over the end line (3) - RED now moves into the middle

- Exercise resets & repeats with RED players now in the middle

Progression

1. As player in middle checks away & before receiving the ball they must call out the number (1-5) being held up by end line player behind them.

Activity - Part B

- Same setup & functionality as Part A. This time as players receive & turn they aim to score in gates

- Players at end lines now become defenders after middle players turn & aim to win the ball

- Attacking players must dribble through the gates to score point

- As per Part A exercise resets & repeats after each turn.

Mini Goal at either end line

Two support players at end line either side of mini goal - 1 from each team

2 v 2 inside area

Activity

- Players inside aream compete in a 2v2 game. Ball always begins from support player at end lines

- RED players aim to lose marker, create space & receive from support player

- Once in possession RED team aim to work ball up field & score in mini goal

- Before scoring RED team must play a give & go with support player at opposite end

- BLUE players aim to win the ball back. If successful BLUE must play to one of their support players

- Game resets every time team scores a goal or defenders win ball & plays to a support player

Progression

1. 1st touch must be forward

2. Limit players to three touches maximum

3. Give teams a time limit to score in mini goal

Conditioned Game I

Organization

20x40 Area. 5x20 Receiving Zone across middle

Four Mini Goals: two goal at either ends in corners

4 v 4 inside playing area: 2 v 2 at either end

Activity

- When a team is in possession, one of their players (without the ball) can drop into the receiving zone

- Player who drops into receiving zone cannot be tackled & must try to play forward

- Once a team scores at one end, the get possession again & attack the opposite end

Progression

1. Defender can track attacker into the receiving zone

2. Player who passes into receiving zone can follow & support to create a 3v2 overload - they must return if attack breaks down or goal is scored.
