Grid Practice - Recieving & Turning

Warm Up - Dribbling

General Notes

Players will be divided into 3 Teams (Yellow) (Green) (Orange) Each player will move around the designated area with a ball at his/her feet.

Aims & Objectives

Players are encouraged to dribble around area with the ball close to their feet and have as many touches as possible performing turns / skills to change direction.

Dribbling with unopposed interface with the challenge of turning where appropriate.

Organisation & Setup

12 Players into (3 Teams)

20 x 20 Yard Pitch

Adaption & Progression

Players are required to move around area only using certain parts of foot upon coaches command.

Outside of both feet, use inside of foot to change direction

Sole of both feet, Perform drag back for change of direction

Warm Up - Quick Draw

General Notes

Players are paired up and instructed to face each other with one ball per pair placed between their feet.

Aims & Objectives

Players upon coaches call of "BALL" must Attempt to drag the ball back towards them using the sole of their foot.

1 Point if successful (Ball must be under control to win point) First to 3 then swap partners

Organisation & Setup

12 Players into Pairs

20 x 20 Yard Pitch

1 Ball per pairing

Adaption & Progression

Players now go back to back with ball placed directly underneath them and must attempt to grab the ball from between their legs upon coaches command

Coach to call various body parts and players must respond by touching those correct body parts.

Technical - Recieving & Turning

General Notes

Players will be divided into 3 Teams (Yellow) (Green) (Orange) Initial start with players passing in their own groups must move out of square once passed.Encourage off the ball movement to initiate opportunities to turn

Aims & Objectives

Passing and Recieving with initial unopposed interference with the challenge of turning when apporpiate

1 Ball per Team

Coaching Factors & Outcomes

Utilise grids to reinforce space, use free grids to maximise space to turn

Adaptation & Progression

Can you now pass over a minimum of 2 grids

Can you take a touch into next square upon recieving the ball

One Team moves to corner squares and the others play 4v4 through grids, Swap Corners Regularly.

Can you turn with fewer touches as possible

Can you take a picture BEFORE you recive ball

How can you help your team AFTER your pass

General Notes

Players will be divided into 3 Teams (Yellow) (Green) (Orange) Initial start with 4v4 playing through grids, with one team positioned in each corner as bounce players. Corner team to switch after set time period.

Aims & Objectives

Passing and Recieving 4v4, Opposed interference with the challenge of passing into corner men to achieve 1 point

Small Sided Game - Corners

General Notes

Players will be divided into 2 Teams

Aims & Objectives

Players can score in any goal, if they score they retain possession of the ball and start again from that goal. They cannot score in the same goal more than once in a row.

12 Players into (2 Teams)

Key Pictures

Turning in order to open out and attack goal

Turning in Order to sheild ball from opponents

Turning in order to change the direction of play

Challenges

If a team can work the ball into or through the middle square and then score that goal is worth two.

Identify and understand suitable opportunities to turn on the ball and how they affect the outcome.

Score as many goals as possible in set time. If possession is surrendered due to turning on non-safe side then Score returns to 0

Decision - Enough space to open out and attack or recieve on safe side to protect ball
