Juggling Warm-up

Organization:

Players in Pairs

One Ball

One Net/Line

Instructions:

- Players play soccer tennis

- Players get 3 touches maximum and 1 bounce (2 bounces for younger or less experienced).

- If the player takes the ball out of the air before any bounce, they are not allowed any bounce(s).

Coaching Points:

- Use of both feet and multiple surfaces

- Can they use other parts of their body to control and set up their play (head, chest, thigh, etc.)

- Weight of shot

- Footwork/movement to anticipate the shot

Organization:

40x60 yard area

Players in pairs (6 pairs = 12 players all in same area - only 2 pairs shown)

1 ball per pair

Instructions:

- Pairs must move throughout the area finding space.

- When pair makes eye contact, player must drive the ball over to their partner.

- Receiving partner takes first touch to dribble into space in a new direction while their partner moves in the opposite direction.

Coaching Points:

- Head up to observe space and other players.

- Determine proper angle of approach to drive ball.

- Keep head still and eyes focused on the ball.

- Strike ball appropriately (center, low, top).

- Follow through towards target.

Progressions:

- Vary types of service (chip, curled, etc.)

Main Theme II

Organization:

10x15 yard area

Players in groups of 4s or 5s

Instructions:

PASSING PATTERN #1 (Left side)

- Player C passes to Player A who checks to the ball in front of the mannequin and lays a drop pass to Player B.

- Player A runs around the mannequin and comes into the field of play in the middle of the goal.

- Player B playes a pass centrally for Player A to run on and stike to goal.

- After shooting, goalie goes to retrieve the ball and returns to their line.

- Player A continues onto the goal to be goalie for the opponents to perform same passing/shooting sequence on their side.

- All players move up one spot.

- Teams stay on the same side, and rotate to the other after "x" minutes. One side shoots with right foot, other side shoots with the left.

Coaching Points:

- Head up to observe space and defender/goalkeeper.

- Determine proper angle of approach to shoot.

- Determine appropriate surface of foot to shoot.

- Keep head still and eyes focused on the ball.

- Strike ball appropriately (center, low, top).

- Follow through towards target.

Progressions:

PASSING PATTERN #2 (Right side)

- Player C plays pass to Player B.

- Player B drops pass back to Player C who plays set for Player A to shoot.

Conditioned Game

40x30 yard area

Instructions:

- 5v5 Tourney

Coaching Points:

- Striking technique.

- Shoot when opportunity arises.

- Type of shot - Decision making.

- Find target player early.

- Movement off the ball.

- Speed of play.

Progression:

- Limit touches.

Regression:

- Remove halfway line restriction.

Match

Organization:

5 v 5

(Larger numbers if scrimmaging opposing age group team)

Instructions:

- Players split up into 3-4 teams and play a round robin tournament where all teams play.

Coaching Points:

- 3 Lines of attack, Defender, Midfield, Striker (rotate players).

- Create as much space for player in possession.

- Try to create a triangle at all to give good angle of support.

- First thought is to go forward then if nothing is on, play back to start again.
