LIJSL PDP - Boys 2001 - Intermediate Level Control and Attacking Principles
Organization: (as players arrive) (5 mins - may only do first progression)
Players in pairs
1 ball per pair
Instructions:
Players work as a team.
Player A serves under arm, player B has specific instructions to play ball back to partner, who must catch, without bouncing, to score a point.
Switch servers after 1 minute.
Progressions:
1) Four touches, any surface. Pass back must be on fourth touch.
2) Four touches, any surface. pass back must be on the fourth touch, with the head.
3) Four touches, any surface. Pass back must be on the fourth touch on the half volley.
4) Four touches, any surface. Pass back must be on the fourth touch, and partner must catch ball on the dive (GK style) for the point to count.
Organization:
Players work in groups of three or four (three Servers one working player - 30 second rounds)
Triangle cones 5 x 5 x 5 yard Area
One ball per Server.
Instructions:
B,C,D start with ball each. (they are set between cones on each long side.)
A checks away from B, (back to the cone) B provides Service. Repeat with C and D (A checks back to cone opposite server each time.
Repeat. Maximum amount of touches in 30 seconds and rotate within 5 seconds.
Coaching Points:
First movement is away from the space to create distance between Server.
Checking back to server and inline with service, looking over shoulder to check for pressure.
Determine proper surface to receive/play ball back to server.
Stay active, stay on toes and get in line with service early.
Eye contact, verbal communication, and weight and direction of pass.

Organization and Instructions:
4v4 Throw - Head - Catch
Change of Possession if ball drops to ground.
Defending team may not intercept Throw/Toss
3 steps maximim with ball in hands. Goal scored off direct finish
Coaching Points (Target player):
Reading pressure from defender, and determining proper support angle to receive ball from air.
Keep body between ball and defender, cushion ball with proper body part on reception, arms out for protection and balance. Keep knees flexible, athletic stance.
Coaching Points (Support Player):
Supporting the target player at an angle to offer support.
Distance of support as determined by pressure.
High pressure = support close, low pressure = drop off and maximize distance.
Open body shape to receive on proper control surface, and read pressure in behind.
Weight and direction of return pass to keep target player's momentum into space.
Organization and Rotation: 4 v 4 plus 4 (3 min games)
Instructions:
Ball is played with feet by field players - service to Plus players in touch.
Plus 4 players are servers - receive ball from pass and Toss to target player to finish one touch.
Coaching Points:
Support Angles - space and distance
Look to play forward, look to play weak side
Recognition of space behind defender
Look to run onto ball with proper timing and pace
Progressions:
Plus four may serve with a volley
Organization:
4 v 4 or 6 v 6 (plus keepers) Free play:
Instructions:
Games last 3 minutes, or first team to 2.
Winning team stays on.
Team entering start play from their own goal.
Goals Scored off Volley or Direct Finish worth 2 pts.
